Celtic Aura is now offering a gem faceting and limited lapidary service. If you have  a piece of rough (ie uncut stone) or a gemstone which is chipped, or has perhaps lost its sparkle from age, wear etc, let us know and we can discuss options, type of gem cut, or if repair is possible.

All of the variations, complexities and properties of any given gemstone or rough would (and has) taken up volumes! so rather than try to cover them all, we think it best to discuss this on an individual basis and give each customer options based accordingly.

We have listed guidelines for faceting prices, however these are estimates at best as no two pieces of rough, or re-cutting situation is the same.

Some gemstones always have inclusions.  This isn't necessarily a bad thing, in fact often times it denotes a natural stone instead of a synthetic; ruby and emerald being two good examples of this.  So what size of gemstone could one get from any given piece of rough?  usually about  25% of whatever you start with.  This is by no means a rule of thumb.  Again each case is different.  We will always discuss this before we start cutting.  Re-cutting a gem or repairing a chipped one will typically result in a better yield than an uncut piece of rough.  We always  endeavour to get the best yield whilst bringing out the true beauty of the gem.  This may occasionally mean cutting more than one smaller stone rather than one larger one that may be less than desirable. We may also request permission to polish a small spot or window on your piece of rough to aid in initial assessment.

Of course if there is ever a certain style, shape or cut required  by a customer, this is considered first and foremost. Calibrated gemstones are also included in our services for a $10 additional fee.
